Chris David Lilley Luthier

I carry out a wide range of repairs and adjustments to stringed instruments on a regular basis, it is important that if a musical instrument is damaged it is taken to a specialist, the accuracy involved in a good repair is very high, and unless done correctly, using specialist glues etc. an instrument can be devalued significantly, by a bad repair.

All repairs are carried out by me personally, there is no outsourcing of work. An approximate price is agreed on at the beginning of repair work, and any issues that arise in the course of repairs which significantly alter the initial costing will be discussed with the instruments owner as and when they occur.

Pricing for repairs: it is never possible to give an exact price for a repair without seeing the instrument first hand, upon inspection I can approximate how long a repair will take, it is the number of hours work that will dictate the price.

How long a repair takes: for serious repairs a minimum of 2 weeks should be allowed, for minor repairs or setup a week may be possible, this is a very rough guide, good workmanship cannot be rushed, and I will not make promises which cannot be kept!

I am more than happy to give free assessments of what is needed, and approximate quotes on repairs, and also advise as to whether or not an instrument is worth repairing. Even if an instrument has a neck snapped in two or a big hole in the front it is not beyond repair, and only a professional like Chris can make that assessment.

With over 16 years playing instruments, and 12 years making/repairing experience I have a good knowledge of how they should sound and feel. I will always try to give quick and straight forward answers to your questions.
