Bow rehairing Chrislilleyviolins.com

Chris carries out Bow rehairing using the finest Mongolian horse hair, this type of hair is very fine and allows a better surface contact with the strings. Rehairing costs £35 for Violin Bows, £38 for Viola Bows.

Bow rehairing by post:

I can do bow rehairs by post (contact me before sending them!), bows need to be packed in a strong tube and I recommend sending by insured post, Postal rehairs are £15 extra to cover postage and time taken to go to the post office etc. I send bows back through Royal Mail insured to £500, payment for postal rehairs can either be cash or cheque, if by cheque, it must be cleared before I send the bows (normally 5 working days).

When does a bow need rehairing?

There are several reasons to rehair a bow, they can be:

1, If you have a playing style that "shreds" hairs, then the bow will eventually run out of enough hair to give a good solid sound.

2, Over the course of time bow hair can start to get small amounts of grease and dirt on it this leads to problems with playing smoothly, also over time you can get the odd hair caught in things and snap them eventually you need to rehair.

3, If you feel the balance of your bow is wrong or you are just uncomfortable with the way it plays it may be worth considering a rehair.
